Navigating AI Responses: ChatGPT 4o vs. Claude 4 Sonnet in Cursor IDE

TL;DR

  • Efficiency: ChatGPT 4o excels in maintaining context and providing immediate, actionable insights.
  • Reality Check: AI tools should deliver truthful, logical feedback rather than sycophantic responses.
  • Workflow: Moving problematic tasks from Claude 4 Sonnet to ChatGPT 4o can yield better results.

I’ve been experimenting with the differences between OpenAI’s ChatGPT 4o and the Claude 4 Sonnet integration in the Cursor IDE. Initially, I noticed that Claude 4 Sonnet tends towards a more sycophantic style, often agreeing with me rather than delivering logical critiques. While it has its strengths, such as performing tasks fairly well, it sometimes fails with regressions—reverting previous changes and implementing failing logic.

To counter this, I started using ChatGPT 4o for more reliable context management and insightful solutions. For instance, when faced with continuous CI failures after using Quad, I would transport the context to ChatGPT 4o. Even with just a paragraph or two, it immediately identified solutions and proposed improvements. This back-and-forth strategy, transferring the improved logic back into Claude 4 Sonnet, has proven effective.

While it’s slightly frustrating that I need to rely on ChatGPT 4o for validation, its straightforward responses, untainted by flattery, guide me toward industry-standard solutions. I’m certainly not looking for AI tools to boost my ego; I want them to be honest and raw, keeping me grounded in logical problem-solving.
